BESCHREIBUNG
Port Charlotte PAC:01 2011 is the latest Cask Exploration Edition of the heavily peated Islay single malt and demonstrates the versatility of a smooth, smoky barbecue Scotch aged in the finest French oak casks.

Distilled from Scottish barley, two plots of spirit were aged in ex-American oak casks for at least six years before being transferred to red wine casks from the left bank of the Gironde, north of Bordeaux. With 56.1% vol. bottled, this spirit shows amazing spice and fruit notes. It is a rich and elegant, undeniably Islay single malt.

The depth of the oak and the harmony it creates with the smoke define the character of this Port Charlotte cask edition. Muscular and round in texture and flavor but with a typically dry, earthy smoke and sea breeze style, Port Charlotte.

TASTING NOTES
Nase
Nose
Plenty of fresh fruit flavors mingle with the dry peat smoke to lure you into the dram; from the oak come spices - cloves, ginger and cassia, along with chocolate, toasted malt with toffee, brown sugar and delicate notes of coconut and vanilla.

On smelling again, the fruity notes of the spirit and wood come together - melon and citrus from the spirit and dried plums and raisins from the cask. The earthy peat smoke coats the fruit and spices and holds it all together, bringing out the wonderful notes of sea and ozone blowing through the dram.

Gaumen
Palate
As soon as the first drop hits the tongue, a wave of flavors spills over the palate, most notably the sweetness of oak and malt, followed by smoke, citrus and dried fruit notes. Another sip helps organize the flavors and you'll find the oak notes, the dried fruits, marzipan and spices.

Caramel and chocolate notes emerge alongside the peat smoke with its earthy richness. A little water opens up the citrus and maritime elements and brings out a little more of the oak's coconut and vanilla notes. The structure on the palate is firm and round, balancing the depth of flavor in this whisky.

Abgang
Finish
The peat smoke comes through on the finish with a more medicinal phenol note. Coconut and floral notes sway, and a salty sea element blends with the earthy smoke in classic Port Charlotte style. The smoothness of the oak and the minerality of the spirit are wrapped in smoke, a familiar signature for this dram.

  • Port Charlotte - Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
