Collection Glenkinchie - Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glenkinchie Distillery is a Scottish single malt whiskey distillery in East Lothian, Scotland - Lowland region. It is currently owned by beverage giant Diageo.

Glenkinchie, as its name suggests, is situated in a gorge of the Kinchie Burn near the village of Pencaitland in East Lothian. It is about 15 miles from Edinburgh. The distillery is located in the middle of farmland.

Its origins date back to 1825 when it was founded by brothers John and George Rate. Although there are no direct records, it is likely that Glenkinchie is the first Milton distillery recorded in the area. The brothers probably renamed them around 1837. In 1853 the Rate brothers went bankrupt and the plant was converted into a sawmill.

The Glenkinchie brand was relatively little known until 1989, when United Distillers began marketing it under their Classic Malts brand.
