Collection Clynelish - Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Clynelish Distillery is a distillery near Brora, Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands.

The original Clynelish Distillery was built in 1819 and is adjacent to the current working Clynelish Distillery which was built in 1967. When Clynelish began distilling in 1820-22, it was producing about 12,000 gallons (about 54,000 liters) a year. Over the years the distillery changed hands from one owner to another until around 1896 it was expanded to around 580,000 liters and an additional warehouse was built on the site.

However, in the 1960s more and more of Clynelish's spirits went into the blends and the 1960s saw a boom with people buying more luxury items like cars and whiskey. So you had to increase production. The present distillery was built in 1967 and is still used today. For a time, the two distilleries operated side by side as Clynelish A and Clynelish B, wanting to ensure the flavors were perfected in the new premises. The following year the older distillery was closed.

Clynelish has had a close association with Johnnie Walker blended whiskey for many years. About 95% of the spirit is used for Johnnie Walker, mostly for the Gold Label Reserve.
