Collection Oban - Highlands Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Oban Distillery is a whiskey distillery in the Scottish west coast town of Oban. It was founded in 1794, predating the town of the same name that later arose in the surrounding rugged harbour.

When brothers Hugh and John Stevenson arrived on the Hebridean border in 1793, they found little more than a natural harbor and windswept views. Here they opened the Oban Brewing Company, whose "Cowbell Ale" was the first production. The following year they began distilling whiskey.

The distillery has changed hands over the years and has seen a bustling town develop around it.

Oban Distillery is owned by Diageo. It has only two stills, making it one of the smallest in Scotland. It produces a whiskey described as 'West Highland', somewhere between the dry, smoky style of the Scottish Isles and the lighter, sweeter malts of the Highlands.
