TASTING NOTES
Nase
Nose

The smoke is calmed by the maritime, ozone character, time has brought a balance, a harmony in the combination of oak, smoke and spirit. While the smoke is always perceptible in the nose, it is dry, earthy, peaty in style, allowing the oak to emerge with waves of golden caramel, fudge, custard, hints of ginger, nutmeg and clove.

There's citrus coaxed from the glass with a drop of water, gentle lemon meringue and clementine. Take a deep breath and the floral aromas of wild thyme, heather and sea rose transport you to the Atlantic coast.
Gaumen
Palate		 On the palate there is a noticeable softness and smoothness in texture and style. Again, the flavor balance is excellent as the smoke wraps loosely around the sweetness that comes from within the oak. Coconut, custard and lemon honey combine with smoked oysters and salty sand baked in the sun.
Abgang
Finish		 The finish is sublime, smoky sure, but also the soft sweetness of fudge and malted barley, orange, mango and banoffee pie hinting at the depth and quality of the oak. The many layers alternate with each sip. As the smoke comes and goes, so do the spirit notes, ripe apple and apricot, nicely interwoven with malt and oak sweetness and the typical Port Charlotte style dry smoke.

  • Port Charlotte - Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

    Die Port Charlotte Distillery (Lochindaal Distillery) wurde zur gleichen Zeit wie das Dorf Port Charlotte erbaut, also um 1829, und war ursprünglich nach dem Dorf benannt.

    Lochindaal sollte nach der ursprünglichen Lizenzvergabe an Colin Campbell viele Besitzer haben. Schließlich wurde die Brennerei von der Distillers Company Limited erworben, was das Ende der Brennerei einläutete.

    Für die Schließung der Brennerei im Jahr 1929, genau 100 Jahre nach ihrer Errichtung, wurden verschiedene Gründe angeführt, darunter die Überproduktion in der Branche, die Auswirkungen der Prohibition in den USA und der Börsenkrach jenes Jahres.

    Bruichladdich erwarb den größten Teil der alten Brennereigebäude und des Geländes im Jahr 2007 zurück.

    Die kurz darauf einsetzende weltweite Banken- und Finanzkrise machte den unmittelbaren Ambitionen des unabhängigen Unternehmens einen Strich durch die Rechnung, Lochindaal wieder aufzubauen und ihm den Namen zurückzugeben, mit dem es ursprünglich ausgestattet war.

    Die Übernahme von Bruichladdich (einschließlich des Standorts Port Charlotte) durch Remy Cointreau im Jahr 2012 hat das Potenzial, die Dinge erneut zu verändern.
