BESCHREIBUNG
For the production of 15 Year Old Viking Heart, Gordon Motion, the Master Whiskey Maker, selected predominantly sherried European oak casks to achieve warm, spicy notes and sherried American oak casks to create a balance of sweet vanilla. Gordon chose a 44% ABV bottling to bring out the whiskey's vibrant fruitiness and distinctive, spicy peat smoke.

Why a ceramic decanter? Going back a century or two, whiskey was stored in earthenware vessels. The lead-free porcelain decanter is 100% food safe, glazed inside and out, and embossed with the lion and snake motif seen on many of the distillery's glass bottles. Look closely at the back of the bottle and you'll spot the heart motif that inspired this whiskey's name.

TASTING NOTES
Nase
Nose		 Rich and spicy flavors of crème brûlée, heather honey and cinnamon crumble, followed by intense fruity notes - fresh pineapple with some sun-kissed lemon zest.
Gaumen
Palate		 A touch of freshly baked sponge cake, warm from the oven, and you find cinnamon again, but this time in toasted chunks.
Abgang
Finish		 Citrus and vanilla notes linger in the aromatic waves of peat smoke.

  • Highland Park - Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky

    Die Highland Park-Brennerei ist die nördlichste Single Malt Scotch Whisky-Brennerei Schottlands und befindet sich in Kirkwall auf den Orkney-Inseln.

    Die Highland Park Distillery wurde von Magnus Eunson gegründet, der tagsüber als Metzger und Kirchenbeamter arbeitete und nachts als illegaler Brenner und Whiskyschmuggler tätig war.

    Im Jahr 1798 wurde er dabei erwischt, wie er auf dem Gelände illegal Whisky destillierte. Fast 30 Jahre später, im Jahr 1826, erhielt Highland Park eine offizielle Lizenz zum Brennen von Whisky.

    Der Name der Brennerei bezieht sich nicht auf die schottischen Highlands, sondern auf die Tatsache, dass die Brennerei auf einem Gebiet namens "High Park" gegründet wurde, das sich von einem tiefer gelegenen Gebiet in der Nähe unterscheidet.

    Highland Park verwendet den örtlichen Torf, der einen höheren Anteil an Heidekraut enthält als viele andere Torfarten. Der Whisky reift in Sherryfässern aus amerikanischer oder europäischer Eiche, die von Oloroso-Sherry-Herstellern in Spanien bezogen werden.

    Highland Park wurde von F. Paul Pacult, Amerikas führendem Experten für destillierte Spirituosen, dreimal als "The Best Spirit in the World" bezeichnet. Sein 25 Jahre alter Whisky war die erste Spirituose überhaupt, die bei der Ultimate Spirits Challenge eine perfekte 100-Punkte-Bewertung erhielt.

    Im Jahr 2018 wurden zwei der speziellen Destillerie-Releases, The Light und The Dark, bei der San Francisco World Spirits Competition jeweils mit einer Doppelgoldmedaille ausgezeichnet.

    2019 gewann Highland Park zum vierten Mal in Folge die Chairman's Trophy für den Besten in der Kategorie bei der Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
