McCarthy's was a pioneer of the single malt American whiskey tradition in the early 1990s and has received equal praise and attention in the years that followed. The 2008 release received a 96 rating (out of 100) in Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible.
Nase Nose |
The smoke is very evident, with plenty of salted butter, vanilla, and smoked ham rising first. |
Gaumen Palate |
Deliciously smoky. He's not a peat monster but has more than enough peated character to stand alongside the big boys of Islay. Iodine, caramel apple, caramel and malt with hints of wood and popcorn make this a very enjoyable dram. |
Abgang Finish |
Smoked meat fades to smoky malt and campfire ash making for a nice long finish. |
