DESCRIPTION

Ardbeg rühmt sich, der ultimative Islay Malt Whisky zu sein. 1815 gegründet, wird Ardbeg von Kennern in aller Welt als der torfigste, rauchigste und komplexeste aller Islay Whiskys verehrt.

Trotz seiner Rauchigkeit ist Ardbeg für seine köstliche Süße bekannt, ein Phänomen, das liebevoll als "das torfige Paradoxon" bezeichnet wird.

Ardbeg Day, der letzte Samstag vom Islay Music und Malt Festival, dem Fèis Ìle, ist in diesem Jahr am 3. Juni 2023. Weltweit und vor allem in der Destillerie gefeiert, gibt es auch in diesem Jahr eine experimentelle Abfüllung in limitierter Auflage: Ardbeg Heavy Vapours.

Erstmals in der Geschichte von Ardbeg wurde ohne Purifier destilliert. Dieser Filter über der Brennblase ist entscheidend für die ausgezeichnete Ausgewogenheit aus Torfaromen und floraler Fruchtigkeit.

Ohne Purifier gelangen auch schwerere Dämpfe in den Whiskey, weil es weniger Rückfluss bei der Destillation gibt - daher der Name Heavy Vapours.

Dadurch verschiebt sich die Ardbegs-Balance von torfigen, rauchigen Noten und blumiger Fruchtigkeit zugunsten der rauchigen Noten.

TASTING NOTES
Nase
Nose		 Aufsteigender Rauch mit etwas Süße. Intensiv, würzig und aromatisch – ein typischer Bauernhofduft driftet mit knusprigen Aromen alter Eisenbahnholzschwellen und geteerten Seilen. Ein Spritzer Wasser unterbricht die Dämpfe und setzt dunkle Schokocreme, verwoben mit geräucherter Artischocke frei.
Gaumen
Palate		 Ardbegs ungezähmte dunkle Aromen erscheinen. Ein Schub Bittersüßes bricht heraus, stört aschigen Kohlestaub und vergießt einen Schleier aus Kardamom, Pfefferminz und Kaffeemehl. Wolken dunkler Schokolade mit Menthol-Eukalyptus ziehen auf, verdecken fruchtig-florale Noten, die sonst das Herzstück Ardbegs bilden. Schwaden von Anis, Zimtgebäck und antiseptischen Lutschbonbons auf der Zunge.
Abgang
Finish		 Der Nachgeschmack ist lang und kräftig, mit einem fast betäubenden Gefühl.

    Ardbeg's pioneering spirit extends beyond traditional whisky-making. In 2011, the distillery sent 20 vials of Ardbeg spirit and wood particles to the International Space Station, showcasing its commitment to innovation. Despite its international fame, Ardbeg remains deeply rooted in its local community, employing around sixty staff members who reside locally.

    Operating with two pot stills, Ardbeg produces approximately 10,000 casks (1.4 million liters) of spirit annually. The name 'Ardbeg,' derived from the Scottish Gaelic 'An Àird Bheag,' meaning 'The small headland,' is not just a name but a testament to the distillery's connection to the land and community.
