DESCRIPTION

The Ardbeg Y2K Vintage Edition - 23 Years is a rare and limited single malt whisky that holds a special place in Ardbeg’s history. Distilled in the year 2000, when the distillery resumed full production after years of neglect, this whisky has been aged for 23 years in a combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. This edition not only commemorates the turn of the millennium but also celebrates the formation of the Ardbeg Committee in 2000, dedicated to preserving the distillery’s legacy.

Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, this whisky offers a complex aroma profile of herbs, sweetness, and subtle smokiness, with notes of lemon balm, linseed oil, and candied walnuts. On the palate, it presents an effervescent sweetness with flavors of anise, toffee, and menthol, followed by sooty and tar-like notes. The long finish reveals hints of antiseptic lozenges, bitter orange peel, and oak tannins.

TASTING NOTES
Nose Herbal, sweet, and fragrant with a subtle, distant smokiness. Citrus notes of lemon balm and linseed oil emerge, along with candied walnuts. A splash of water intensifies the aroma, bringing out hints of heather honey and creosote.
Palate Effervescent, sorbet-like texture, offering intensely sweet flavors. Anise, toffee, peppermint, and menthol blend with tarry and sooty notes, followed by coffee grounds.
Finish Long-lasting, with notes of antiseptic lozenges, bitter orange peel, and oak tannins.

    Ardbeg's pioneering spirit extends beyond traditional whisky-making. In 2011, the distillery sent 20 vials of Ardbeg spirit and wood particles to the International Space Station, showcasing its commitment to innovation. Despite its international fame, Ardbeg remains deeply rooted in its local community, employing around sixty staff members who reside locally.

    Operating with two pot stills, Ardbeg produces approximately 10,000 casks (1.4 million liters) of spirit annually.
