  • Glenfiddich - Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glenfiddich is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky produced by William Grant & Sons in the Scottish town of Dufftown, in Moray. Glenfiddich means "Valley of the Deer" in Scottish Gaelic, which is why the Glenfiddich logo is a stag.

The Glenfiddich Distillery was founded in 1886 by William Grant in Dufftown, Scotland, in the valley of the River Fiddich. The first Glenfiddich Single Malt Whisky was distilled on Christmas Day 1887.

In the 1920s, during Prohibition in the USA, Glenfiddich was one of the few distilleries to increase its production. This positioned them strongly to meet the sudden increase in demand for fine, aged whiskies following the repeal of Prohibition.

In the 1950s, the Grant family built an on-site infrastructure that included coppersmiths for maintaining the copper stills and their own cooperage, one of the few remaining today.

In 1956, the Grant's brand introduced the now iconic triangular bottle, designed by Hans Schleger.

During the challenging times of the 1960s and 70s, many small, independent distilleries were bought out or went out of business. To survive, W. Grant & Sons expanded production and launched advertising campaigns and a visitor center. It was during this time that they decided to market Single Malt as a standalone premium brand, and introduced Glenfiddich Single Malt to the United States and other foreign markets in 1963, establishing the modern Single Malt Whisky category.

Later, W. Grant & Sons was one of the first distilleries to package its bottles in tubes and gift tins and to recognize the importance of the duty-free market for spirits. This marketing strategy was successful, and Glenfiddich has since become the world's best-selling Single Malt.

Glenfiddich is currently run by the fifth generation of William Grant's descendants.
