Rabbit Hole was founded in 2012 by Kaveh Zamanian after he met his future wife Heather in Chicago, a native of Louisville with a passion for bourbon. When Kaveh told his wife about his desire to launch his own bourbon brand in Louisville, Heather told him that he would lead the family down a rabbit hole from which they might never return. This inspired Kaveh to use the name "Rabbit Hole" for his new brand.
Kaveh saw a lack of transparency and authenticity in the bourbon industry. A handful of distilleries produced dozens of brands without clear differentiation between them. He wanted to approach things differently, believing that this would allow him to bring exciting innovations to the world of bourbon. He was not interested in sourcing whiskey from various distilleries but instead found a genuine contract distiller who would create Kaveh's recipe under his strict supervision.
In 2019, Kaveh and Rabbit Hole entered into a partnership with the international spirits giant Pernod Ricard. Pernod did not buy the Rabbit Hole brand but formed a partnership to expand the scope, network, and distribution both domestically and internationally.
