DESCRIPTION

Blackened Kentucky Straight Rye Double Cask Finished Whiskey, aptly named RYE THE LIGHTNING, is the latest limited edition from Blackened American Whiskey.

Inspired by Metallica's six-times platinum second album, this release was finished in Madeira and rum casks with its own unique playlist, transmitted to the barrels using Blackened's proprietary Black Noise sound enhancement process.

This limited edition consists of 5-8 year old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskeys, personally selected by Blackened Master Distiller & Blender Rob Dietrich.

During the rum cask finishing phase, the whiskey undergoes the proprietary Black Noise sound enhancement process, where the low Hertz frequencies of Metallica's music cause the barrels to vibrate, leading to increased interaction between the whiskey and the wood, drawing the liquid further into the cask to extract more flavor and color.

Master Distiller & Blender Rob Dietrich aimed to create a rye whiskey with depth that is still palatable, accessible, and above all, enjoyable to drink. Designed for rye whiskey enthusiasts, this special rye recipe uniquely stands out from the usual rye whiskey mainstream.

The bottle label features a green soundwave graph to distinguish it from the Blackened American Whiskey flagship and to nod to the historical significance of using the color green to label rye whiskey bottles.

  • Blackened - American Whiskey

    Blackened Whiskey represents a true collaboration between icons from different realms: Metallica, a powerhouse of heavy metal, and Dave Pickerell, a true pioneer in American whiskey. This unique partnership brings together music and spirits in an innovative way.

    The two icons employ a special technique known as "BLACK NOISE" to enhance the maturation of Blackened Whiskey. Essentially, the whiskey is aged in barrels that are pummeled by a Meyer's Sound Subwoofer playing a curated selection of Metallica songs. This process agitates the whiskey in the barrels, leading to a more intense interaction with the wood and amplifying the flavors.

    Following the passing of Pickerell in 2018, Metallica turned to Rob Dietrich, formerly of Stranahan's Single Malt Whiskey, to take over as the distiller and blender of Blackened American Whiskey. Under his leadership, the tradition of innovation and quality continues, making Blackened Whiskey a unique experience for whiskey enthusiasts.
