DESCRIPTION

The Feering Early Harvest is the first release from the Cabrach Distillery, which opened in the summer of 2024 in the Cabrach region of Speyside. This limited edition of 6,000 bottles is a carefully crafted Blended Malt Scotch Whisky that reflects the rich whisky heritage of the region.

The term "Feering" refers to the first ploughed furrow in the northeast of Scotland, serving as a guiding line for those that follow. In this sense, The Feering Early Harvest symbolizes the beginning of a new era for the Cabrach Distillery. The bottling was created by Alan Winchester, the former Master Distiller of The Glenlivet, using four single malts from neighboring Speyside distilleries that generously contributed their casks for this project.

The Cabrach - Speyside Whisky
Im Herzen der abgelegenen und rauen Cabrach-Region Schottlands wurde die Cabrach Distillery vor nur einem Monat in Betrieb genommen und markiert damit einen neuen Meilenstein in der reichen Geschichte dieser Gegend. Die Brennerei gehört zu 100 % dem Cabrach Trust und ist als Community Interest Company (CIC) registriert – die einzige ihrer Art. Jeder erwirtschaftete Penny wird reinvestiert, um „The Cabrach“ – eine Sammlung abgeschiedener Täler, die unter Entvölkerung leiden – wieder zum Leben zu erwecken.
Die historischen Wurzeln des Cabrach Whiskys
Einst war „The Cabrach“ die Wiege der Whiskyproduktion in Speyside, geprägt von zahlreichen illegalen Brennereien, die fernab großer Siedlungen im Verborgenen betrieben wurden. Diese kleinen Destillen waren die Keimzelle für die Entwicklung von Speyside, das heute weltweit für seine dichte Konzentration an Brennereien bekannt ist. Doch das Cabrach blieb aufgrund seiner Abgeschiedenheit und der harten Winter von dieser Entwicklung ausgeschlossen.
Die Vision des Cabrach Trust
Im Jahr 2013 wurde der Cabrach Trust gegründet, um das kulturelle Erbe und die Geschichte der Region zu bewahren sowie wirtschaftliche und soziale Chancen zu schaffen. Unter der Leitung von Grant Gordon, einem Philanthropen und Whisky-Experten aus der William Grant & Sons-Familie, hat sich der Trust zu einem lebendigen Zentrum für Gemeinschaft und Entwicklung entwickelt.
Das Highlight dieser Initiative ist zweifellos die Cabrach Distillery, die auf der historischen 170-Acre-Inverharroch-Farm errichtet wurde. Mit Fördergeldern und Spenden wurden die alten Farmgebäude in eine traditionelle Craft-Destillerie verwandelt, die die Whiskygeschichte der Region ehrt.
Whiskyherstellung auf traditionelle Weise
Am 25. Oktober 2024 nahm die Cabrach Distillery den Betrieb auf. Sie ist mit einer 2.500-Liter-Wash-Still, einer 1.800-Liter-Spirit-Still und traditionellen außenliegenden Worm Tubs ausgestattet. Zusätzlich gibt es eine 1.250-Liter-Brennblase mit direkter Befeuerung, die die historischen Destillationsmethoden des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts im Cabrach nachbildet. Nach über 170 Jahren fließt wieder Whisky aus den Cabrach-Stills.
Ganz im Sinne der Handwerkskunst stammt ein Teil der für die Produktion verwendeten Gerste von lokalen Farmen – ein weiterer Beweis für die tiefe Verwurzelung der Brennerei in der Region.
Ein Hoffnungsschimmer für The Cabrach
Die Cabrach Distillery ist mehr als nur eine Brennerei. Mit einem Besucherzentrum und einem Community Café soll sie Touristen anziehen und neues Leben in die Region bringen. Ikonische Orte wie das Grouse Inn, einst bekannt für seine spektakuläre Whiskybar, könnten im Zuge dieser Wiederbelebung ebenfalls eine neue Zukunft erhalten.
