DESCRIPTION

The Glenturret 8 Year Old by Wilson & Morgan, bottled in 2023 from cask #150000021 with a PX Sherry Finish, showcases as a powerful single malt. Aged in a first fill Pedro Ximenez cask, it features intense colors and profound wine aromas, yet remains exceptionally robust and untamed.

The nose is very smoky, almost coastal-like, enriched with coffee, leather, and damp earth. On the palate, it is equally earthy and leathery, with a touch of oak and a subtle sweetness of raisins.

  • Glenturret - Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The Glenturret Distillery, located in the picturesque region of Perthshire, Scotland, is one of the oldest operating whisky distilleries in Scotland, known for its high-quality single malt Scotch whiskies. The distillery is situated near Crieff and was founded in 1775. Today, Glenturret is part of the Lalique Group, renowned for its luxury products and crystal glass.

Glenturret was founded in 1775 and has a long and eventful history. Originally known as Hosh Distillery, it later became known as Glenturret. The distillery has seen many changes of ownership over the years and has continuously evolved. Despite economic challenges and interruptions in production, Glenturret has consistently recovered and maintained its tradition and quality.

A notable feature of Glenturret is its commitment to traditional distillation methods. The distillery uses traditional copper stills, known for their impact on the taste and aroma of the whisky. Glenturret relies on slow distillation to produce an exceptionally pure and complex spirit. The water used for distillation comes from the nearby Turret Burn and is valued for its purity.

The maturation of Glenturret whisky takes place in carefully selected oak casks, including both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. These casks impart rich, fruity aromas and complex flavor notes to the whisky. The distillery's warehouses provide ideal conditions for the slow maturation of the whisky, leading to exceptional flavor development.

The Glenturret range includes a wide array of single malt whiskies known for their versatility and quality. Core expressions include Glenturret 10 Years, Glenturret 12 Years, and Glenturret Peated Edition. Additionally, the distillery offers limited special editions and exclusive vintage whiskies, highly coveted by collectors and connoisseurs.

Wilson & Morgan: An Insight into a Renowned Whisky Bottler

Wilson & Morgan, an independent whisky bottler from Italy, has been known since 1992 for its fine selection of rare Scotch Malt Whiskies. The company specializes in Single Malts that age between 10 and 30 years and are sometimes finished in Port, Rum, or Marsala casks. These meticulously selected malts are then delivered worldwide to discerning consumers, including selected Michelin-starred restaurants and wine and gourmet shops.

History and Origin of Wilson & Morgan

The history of Wilson & Morgan is closely linked with the Venetian Rossi family. In the 1920s, wine and oil trader Giuseppe Rossi, the grandfather of current chairman Fabio Rossi, moved from Venice to Treviso. After World War II, his son Mario expanded the business and began importing whisky from Scotland in the 1960s. Initially, mainly blended whiskies were imported until the demand for more sophisticated flavor profiles led to the introduction of Single Malts.

    Philosophy and Craftsmanship

The philosophy of Wilson & Morgan is based on the careful selection and personal assessment of each cask bottling by Fabio Rossi. Rossi, who studied the art of winemaking in Conegliano, uses his extensive knowledge and refined palate to select the best casks. This precision and trust in his own taste make Wilson & Morgan an outstanding choice for lovers of fine and rare Single Malts.

The Range of Wilson & Morgan

Wilson & Morgan offers a wide range of whiskies from various regions of Scotland. These whiskies age between 10 and 30 years and often benefit from a finishing period in special casks such as Port, Rum, or Marsala casks. This practice imparts additional depth and complexity to the whiskies, which is highly appreciated by connoisseurs. Particularly noteworthy are the limited editions, which are offered in selected Michelin-starred restaurants and wine and gourmet shops worldwide.

    Exclusive Bottlings and Rarities

Part of Wilson & Morgan's range includes exclusive bottlings from rare casks, available in limited quantities. These whiskies are distinguished by their high quality and complexity and are valued by collectors and connoisseurs for their uniqueness. Finishing in various cask types, such as Port, Rum, or Marsala casks, creates a diverse array of flavors and nuances that make each whisky unique.
