DESCRIPTION

  • Edradour - Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The Edradour Distillery, nestled in the idyllic Highland village of Pitlochry in Perthshire, is widely renowned for its unique and historic Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Established in 1825, Edradour is among Scotland's oldest and, with a production capacity of only 95,000 liters annually, also one of the smallest traditional distilleries in the country. Despite its size, the distillery is famous for its dedication to traditional whisky-making methods.

Equipped with traditional equipment, including a one-ton open mash tun, wooden fermentation tanks, and small stills leading to worm tubs, Edradour is committed to preserving classic methods. This commitment is reflected in the robust yet fruity character of their whisky.

Under the leadership of Andrew Symington, owner of the independent bottler Signatory, since 2002, Edradour has increasingly focused on diverse wood management. The distillery particularly favors former sherry casks for maturing its new spirit but also experiments with a variety of casks from fortified and still wines for finishing.

In addition to the classic Edradour 10 Years and the 12 Years Old Caledonia, the distillery offers a range called "Edradour straight from the cask". These whiskies are particularly notable as they are bottled without the addition of caramel, without chill filtration, and at cask strength, providing an intense and authentic whisky experience.

Since 2006, Edradour has expanded its range to include a peaty, smoky whisky under the brand name Ballechin. Made with barley infused with peat to a level of at least 50ppm, Ballechin presents a distinctive smoky and earthy taste. The expansion of the distillery in 2018 now allows for the separate distillation of the peaty Ballechin and the unpeated Edradour.

Not just as a producer of fine whiskies but also as a popular tourist destination, Edradour has made a name for itself. Over 100,000 visitors flock to the distillery during the summer months. The picturesque buildings from 1837 provide a welcoming backdrop for tours and tastings. Despite the bustling visitor numbers, Edradour remains a recommended destination for whisky lovers and those aspiring to be.
