BESCHREIBUNG
Each year, Distillery Manager John Campbell creates a limited edition malt to celebrate the Friends of Laphroaig and friendship ("Càirdeas" in Gaelic) in general.

The 2021 Càirdeas is matured three times - first in American oak ex-Bourbon casks, followed by quarter casks and finally in European oak hogsheads, which previously stored Pedro Ximénez sherry. The special maturation process gives the 2021 Càirdeas a unique, expressive character.

Bottled at cask strength to ensure rich and complex flavors. Smoky aromas of grilled bacon, as well as manuka honey and oak spices. The flavor notes are nutty combined with a mix of toffee and cinnamon on the nose.

TASTING NOTES
Nase
Nose		 Medicinal, nutty and sweet with notes of pine tar, almond and marzipan, hazelnut and praline, combined with cotton candy, apple compote and toffee, but also cherries, gooseberries and cinnamon.
Gaumen
Palate		 Smoky and peaty with slightly ashy notes of cured ham and grilled bacon, sweet and fruity aromas of manuka honey, licorice root, but also cooked apples, malt and oak spice reminiscent of pencil shavings.
Abgang
Finish		 Still hot and spicy, with hints of sea salt and dried seaweed.

  • Laphroaig - Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

    Die Laphroaig-Destillerie ist eine schottische Single-Malt-Whisky-Destillerie auf Islay. Benannt ist sie nach dem Landstrich am Kopf des Loch Laphroaig an der Südküste der Insel Islay.

    Die Bedeutung des Namens ist nicht bekannt, aber eine allgemein vorgeschlagene Etymologie umfasst die Elemente "lag" (gälisch: Mulde), "breid" (nordisch: 'breidd' Breite) und "vik" (nordisch: 'vík' Bucht), was auf eine ursprüngliche gälische Form wie "Lag Bhròdhaig" (die Mulde von Broadbay) schließen lässt.

    Die Brennerei und die Marke sind im Besitz von Beam Suntory, der amerikanischen Tochtergesellschaft der japanischen Suntory Holdings, und werden von ihr betrieben.

    Laphroaig bezeichnet sich selbst als "den geschmacksintensivsten aller schottischen Whiskys" und reift am häufigsten bis zu 10 Jahre, obwohl auch die 15-jährige Variante üblich ist.

    Der Whisky hat einen torfig-rauchigen Geschmack. Ungefähr 10 % der Gerste wird vor Ort gemälzt, wobei handgestochener Torf von Orten auf Islay verwendet wird.

    Der Laphroaig Quarter Cask wurde im Jahr 2004 eingeführt. Dieser Ausdruck reift in Ex-Bourbon-Fässern, wird in kleineren Fässern veredelt und nicht kühlgefiltert.

    Aufgrund der kleineren Fässer ist der Kontakt mit der Eichenoberfläche um 30 % größer als bei Standardfässern. Das Unternehmen beschreibt den Effekt so, dass ein weicher und samtiger Rand entsteht". Der Quarter Cask wird mit 48% ABV abgefüllt.
